RARE PAIR of Antique Brass Astral Lamp Solar Lamps withCut Shades Prisms Marble
RARE PAIR of Antique Brass Astral Lamp Solar Lamps w/Cut Shades Prisms Marble. Originally these antique solar lamps would have had a very early centre draft burner and used whale oil, lard or vegetable oil for fuel. Some time after 1860 the draught tube was removed and it was converted to kerosene which was much easier to use and produced a far superior light. On this solar lamp the shade holder is like a cap that fits over the font so that the shade sits around the widest part of the font. Once the shade is in place, the font and burner become virtually invisible. The inclusion of beautiful crystal lustres hang from the shade holder. (The lustres May have some minute flakes and are mismatched but still look great) The font and the stem are brass and the stepped base is marble with a patterned brass break between the two pieces. The beautiful hand blown and hand cut shades are very fine with no chips or cracks. Also vintage queen Ann type burners completes these antique solar lamps.
