Rare Antique Italian Grand Tour Bronze Mouse Rat Oil Lamp Greek Roman Style 18c

This listing is for an extremely rare Antique Hellenistic Greek Roman Style Italian Grand Tour Bronze Rat / Mouse Oil Lamp. It has its original cleaning tools with it, a very hard to find accessory. A wonderful naturalistic design as was popular in the era with the fascination with the natural world and with almost all animals having a symbolic meaning. It is crafted in solid patinated bronze and consists of an ancient Roman style oil lamp suspended on a chain with a Mouse or Rat finial which is removable.

To avoid damage, I have not tried to use this piece as an oil lamp at all. The metal is in excellent shape, with a beautiful patina. It has a quality handcrafted quality, without a rough unrefined feel.

The chain appears to be complete as well. The cleaning tools are in great shape, they appear to be hand forged.

Believed to be modeled after the Roman originals excavated at Pompeii or Herculaneum. It originally went to an extremely rare set, an Athenian lamp with marble base carrying 3 oil lamps -In'Game of Thrones' Cersei Lannister has one of these sets on her desk.

It is a great piece to display on its own however. It is unmarked by a maker. Based on my research and the set it is off of, I believe it is from the late 18th to very early 19th century.

This piece comes from a massive estate collection, and was extremely well cared for in a temperature controlled room. A great piece for collectors, display, gifting, & more!
