French Green Enamelled + Tripodal Winged Lions Kerosene Oil Lamp

This listing is for the complete lamp as shown in the photos. This tripodal spelter base is very unusual and I have only seen one other example over many years.

It is in excellent condition with the exception of a small repair/anomaly under the scroll on one of the legs. It is very difficult to detect and appears that there may have been a crack and in order to stop this running it has been filled. This does not affect the aesthetics or integrity of this base. This base can be repainted, refinished or plated to suit your preference and/or décor.

The French fount is also unusual as this colour is normally frosted or bought ba ck to a satin finish. The fact that this is clear makes it special. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or repairs. It has a couple of small shallow scuffs and several of the usual small air bubbles. The enamelling is intact, consistent, glossy and without loss making it close to pristine. This is a rarity for a fount this age as cleaning tends to diminish the finish. Please note that this fount does not need an undermount (if using this base) as it should be set directly into the base.

Because of the style of the base and the variation in the design of the enamelling on the fount this lamp can be presented in a number of different ways. The brass collar is perfect as is the Gaudard 14''' (ligne) burner with the exception of a tiny scuff on the edge of the shade lip. The burner is fully functional and the wick winder moves freely. It is free of splits cracks and fractures.

This will take a shade either directly on the lip or with the addition of a gallery. The chimney is the appropriate style for this burner and in very good condition. Both rims are chip and fleabite free and it shows negligible signs of use or wear. It does have a couple of straws which is not uncommon with glass this age.

Overall it is a striking piece in excellent condition. Unfortunately the photos do not do it justice. H 560 mm 22 (with chimney).

280 mm 11 (top of collar). W 127 mm 5 (base sides of triangle). 145mm 5 1/4 (fount at widest). Please view the photos carefully as they form a major part of the description.

Items which need extra attention/care antiques, glass, delicate/fragile etc. I use recycled packaging as much as possible. Items can be collected from KYNETON 3444. If you are not in a hurry I may be able to organise collection from SUNBURY 3429. If this occurs I will look to you for the balance.
