This listing is for the complete lamp and a. Lthough the base and fount were not originally partnered with the spelter figure they are age appropriate. If you are a purist this lamp may not be for you as it is not all original. The unusual shaped French crystal fount is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines.
The cuts are deep, clean and free of chips and fleabites. There are a number of fine scratches to the internal resulting from over enthusiastic cleaning. The glossy external surface has a couple of small scratches and a tiny scuff.
Otherwise it shows negligible signs of wear and/or use. The French solid brass collar is a replacement and in excellent condition - no splits, cracks, creases etc. The original burner is in excellent condition and without cracks, scratches or splits. The wick winder moves freely and has minimal excess movement.
The "Depose" chimney, even though it is an early 1900's replacement is in excellent condition with no chips cracks, fleabites, scratches or scuffs. The finish to the spelter was worn and/or non-existent, some of the seams had started to open up and the timber plinth was cracked and degraded. The timber plinth has been replaced with a Victorian black earthen ware oil lamp plinth which is in very good condition with no chip, cracks etc. Even though it still has a good gloss, under very strong light, it does show some signs of wear by way of extremely fine scratches, probably from cleaning, and one small scuff. In its previous life this piece was a late 1800s spelter statue or garniture. Whatever he was holding in his left hand was missing and at the time this came away it took his thumb with it. This worked in my favour as it allowed me to add the brass pole/rod which is new and the early vintage candle cup. Overall, with the exception of the thumb, it has been completely restored, stripped, primed and refinished in old gold with the extensive detail having been enhanced to give it definition and depth. There are a small number of pits, one breather hole, fine seams, and an. Area of roughness - all of which are to be expected due to the manufacturing process and its age. With a new lease on life this is now an impressive oil lamp and would be, in my opinion, well suited to a more masculine décor. For someone who is looking for a less frilly/fancy period piece or something a little different, whether stand alone or part of a grouping, this may be a good option. Lamp 680mm 26 3/4 (high with chimney). Base 153mm 6 (plinth diameter). Please view the photos carefully as they form a major part of the description. Items which need extra attention/care antiques, glass, delicate/fragile etc.
