Bradley & Hubbard Electrified B&h Oil Lamp Brass & Cast Iron Etched Glass Shade
BRADLEY & HUBBARD ELECTRIFIED B&H OIL LAMP BRASS & CAST IRON ETCHED GLASS SHADE. A beautiful antique American-made Gone With The Wind style lamp. It was made by the Bradley & Hubbard Manufacturing Company which operated in Meridian, Connecticut from 1852 to 1940. This piece has been in my personal collection since 1986. I bought the lamp because I wanted a Gone With The Wind style lamp that had an antique look. When I bought it, I was told it had recently been taken apart and cleaned & polished and the metal parts lacquered to prevent tarnishing. There are some areas on the brass portion of the font where the lacquer was sprayed on a bit heavy and has run or pooled and darkened over time, but this is minor. It had also been electrified at that time as well and has an on-off switch on the cord. The metal appears to me to be a combination of different colorations of cast metal and brass and is quite ornate. The metal parts of the lamp appear to me to be all original (except for the finish), complete (except possibly parts that were removed to electrify the lamp) and undamaged and the bulb and switch work fine. It has a clear blown glass chimney and a clear blown glass ball shade. The shade has been etched with a floral design (daisies) and has a graduated elongated hexagon optic pattern molded on the inside; it also has a satin or frosted finish to the outside. There is a metal collar (top ring) inserted into the top opening of the shade as well. I do not know if the globe or chimney are original to the lamp. The lamp is marked in the metal on the underside of the foot B & H (with printers flowers above and below) inside a circle and the number 29353.

The small round brass wheel originally used for raising the wick is marked MADE IN U. The lamp is gorgeous as you can see from the photos! I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability. Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color. However, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures.

Our store has many unique and interesting items in several different categories from 35 years of our dealing and collecting antiques and collectables. This piece dates to circa 1900. It is in very good to excellent condition.

Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item. There are tiny shallow flakes or flea bites all around the outside edge of the bottom opening of the glass ball shade; all very minor in my opinion. There are a few minor dark marks (light signs of use) to the exterior finish on the shade.

There is tarnish to the metal top ring on the glass shade. I see one tiny stone in the glass, but this is from the making of the glass and not damage. Otherwise, there are no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines or repairs to the glass. The metal all appears to be in perfect condition except for a few minor dents (to font & base) and a few areas where the lacquer has darkened over time as mentioned above. I will also mention that the globe rocks slightly on the lamp.

Please keep in mind the photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is. Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece. It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo. The lamp is about 10.25 (26 cm) across the handles and the glass globe is about 10 (25.4 cm) in diameter and about 10 (25.4 cm) in height.

The complete lamp sits about 24 (61 cm) tall at the top of the chimney. The very top of the four fingers that hold the chimney sit about 13.25 (33.7 cm) off of the table as well. The chimney by itself is about 3.25 (8.3 cm) in diameter at the widest and about 12 (30.5 cm) tall. About 8 pounds 9.375 ounces (3.984 kilograms) for the complete lamp.

On heavier items I will also offer a less expensive option, if available.
