Antique LOMAX Patented 1870 Pedestal Finger Oil Lamp Nice RARE Older Variation

I believe this to be an early variation on the common Lomax lamp. Patented in 1870, these lamps were produced into the late teens. During that time, mold designs and manufacturing techniques were improved and older styles fell out of existence. This lamp is shorter and has a much less rounded font than the later examples. Its finger hold feels awkward, because the stem or pedestal is much shorter (not quite an inch) than the more modern ones. Later finger holds were mounted from the side of the stem to the base, giving proper room for the hand to fit. This handle is designed from the font to the base leaving little room to hold comfortably.

It also has a different pebbled pattern to its base, a snapped pontil scar and nice shelf wear. The burner is a #0 Venus made by E. It has no problems and will advance the wick properly. The collar and burner thread as they should, both have good threads. I apologize for the dirt.

I normally clean glass before photographing but left this lamp as found. I wanted the pattern to show as well as possible. There is NO damage to this lamp. No chips, cracks, dings, dents or problems. The collar is a fine line and the original plaster is holding strong.
