Oil and kerosene lamps were widely used throughout the mountain and hill areas of Nepal, but as availability of electricity through inexpensive solar panels and micro hydro projects has become more widespread, they are becoming more and more a thing of the past. This oil lamp would have been used during religious or celebratory events.
It can still be used The top portion of the lamp is used for storing the oil, usually Kerosene / Mustard oil. The head can be unscrewed to pour the oil in. From the top of the lamp, a wick is burned using the oil as fuel.
It has an excellent patina and condition despite its age. This piece can be used as decoration in your meditation room or as apart of your antique arts collection. The oil lamp still functions and can be used. The piece may vary slightly in person due to the lighting/flash lighting in photo shoots.
