For your consideration is an antique Wallace & Sons counterbalance hanging oil lamp circa 1880's. This ornate frame is brass and has a bird and floral design stamped into it. All of the metal is brass with the exception of the counterbalance weight. It has a thin white milk glass slant shade and the fitter is a tight fit into the shade holder. The shade also is not perfectly round, it may be as made, age, or possibly from heat.
At the bottom of the lamp the font holder has 12 holes on the top edge for the prisms to hang and the font is a clear glass with a spill ring and there is a frosted diamond pattern that wraps around the font. On the bottom of the font it is marked PATD SEP. 20 1870 and on the fill collar it is marked with a patent date as well. There is area of the chain that are bent up but you can move the lamp up and down but sometimes it needs some help moving past a bent link. There is a Scoville Mfg Co Queen Anne burner.On the frame it is marked Patent Applied For. The counter-balance weight cover does have dings in it. The lamp measures approximately 41 1/2" tall retracted and approximately 69" extended. The shade is 5 1/2" tall, a 6 1/4" fitter, and is 14 in diameter. The font holder is 4" inside diameter at the bottom and is 1 1/4" deep.
