This is an antique oil lamp made by Doulton. The lamp was originally an oil lamp that has been converted to a working electric lamp. The lamp is white with a lovely Dutch windmill scene in green, as shown. The design shows ladies getting water from a stream while others watch children sailing toy boats in the stream. The original height of the lamp base (without the electric bulb base) stands just under 14" tall and measures 8" across, including the handle on each side.
With the electrified bulb addition the lamp stands a total of 20.5 tall, a full size lamp. The oil container is a nicely aged brass, a dark patina consistent with the age, all original. The brass oil/kerosene bowl is an antique Bradley & Hubbard and the screw-on lid has "B & H" on it. As shown in photos, and easily screws on and off. The wick adjust knob also moves easily. This is a beautiful antique lamp and is in wonderful condition from the late 1800's.Doulton is an English ceramic manufacturing company dating from 1815. Operating originally in Vauxhall, London, later moving to Lambeth, in 1882 it opened a factory in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, in the centre of English pottery. From the start the backbone of the business was a wide range of utilitarian wares, mostly stonewares including storage jars, tankards and the like. From 1853 to 1902 its wares were marked Doulton, then from 1902, when a royal warrant was given, Royal Doulton.
