Antique 19th c B&H Copper Oil Lamp with Dragon Handles & Pittsburgh Poppy Globe
This is a beautiful antique (late 19th century) Bradley & Hubbard oil lamp with cast metal handles that resemble dragons or seahorses and a fabulous green and mauve painted pressed glass Pittsburgh poppy globe. The globe isn't original to this lamp, it would have originally been found on a Pittsburgh lamp with a poppy base that matched the globe. The paint on the globe is original, and some time long ago the copper base of this lamp was painted green and pink to better match the globe. The green and pink paint on the base is not original but is very old. The B&H font and burner have a copper finish that has acquired a beautifully aged patina. The the round middle piece of the burner is missing and in its place is a socket that sits loosely on top of the lamp and is not secured in any way.
The cord and socket are in good working condition. The wick knob and the wick clamp on the inside of the font are still intact so this could easily be converted back to oil if the socket was removed and the center of the burner was replaced. The font was tested for leaks and is leak-free. The entire lamp is in very good condition with no visible cracks or repairs and the globe is excellent with only a few tiny flakes along the bottom edge.
The glass chimney is intact and excellent. Overall height of the lamp is 25", the width across the arms of the lamp is 12", and the shade is 10 in diameter.
