Rare and fine example of 19th Century Samson porcelain with Louis V style ormolu. Powder pink famille rose ground, with fields of roosters, chrysanthemum flowers together with other flowers and birds, copying Chinese export porcelain of the time. This item is (or was), and oil lamp. The oil lamp parts have been removed, as the value is in the Samson section. The porcelain lid is the top part of a removable section which holds oil for the lamp wick. This removable section sits inside the larger porcelain vase or pot. About 11 5/8 inches tall, and 10 3/4 inches tall. (about 29.5 x 27.3 cm) It weighs about 10 1/2 pounds (about 4 3/4 kg) Very good condition, no chips, no cracks and no repairs.
