Antique Hanging Electrified Solar Oil Country Store Lamp Painted Flower Shade

This is an original antique (late 19th to early 20th century) hanging country store lamp with Solar Lamp Co. Font (of Kansas City, MO) and original milk glass shade with hand painted flowers on both front and back.

The lamp was electrified early and has old cloth covered wires extending from the font up to the top of the lamp frame with a newer cord attached (with electrical tape) at the top. The newer cord has a chain around it and a lamp switch near the end. All wiring is in good condition and the lamp is working but should be inspected for safety before use. The entire piece is in excellent condition and all metal pieces (except the chain) have the original copper finish intact. The finish looks very good but has some scratches and scuffs from use and has acquired a naturally aged patina.

The metal ring that holds the glass chimney does not clamp tightly in place anymore but fits down into the top of the lamp and is not in danger of falling off when the lamp is hung. The chimney is not original to the lamp; it is an Aladdin replacement chimney, marked Aladdin at the top. There was probably once a ring welded to the top of the frame for hanging the lamp, but the ring is missing and the lamp now just hangs from the chain.

The shade is excellent with only very minor light wear to the finish and no chips or other damage anywhere. It screws securely into the shade ring with three original set screws. Overall dimensions of the lamp are 15 1/2" W x 27 1/2" H (not including the chain) and the shade measures about 14 in diameter. The cord is about 13 feet long and the chain covers about 2/3 of it.
